Free Street Theater's Youth Ensemble will present an excerpt from "Mothering the Movement," their new play created in partnership with the podcast, "Help This Garden Grow," by Respair Production & Media, along with People for Community. Free Street is a femme-led arts and culture organization that centers original performance work by Black, Brown, and Immigrant communities; queer artists; youth artists; and work that is committed to the thriving and well-being of people on the South and West Sides of the city. We believe in the theater as a space to uplift joy and justice, especially racial, economic, and environmental justice in Chicago. Our youth ensemble is made up of 14-19 year olds who spend a year with a topic/issue, and create a play based on their research, interviews, and personal stories. Post-show discussion will feature a portion of the directing team & youth performers.

Keynote #2
Hear about the rich tapestry of teen councils in Chicago and how teen voice impacts arts institutions. Teens from Steppenwolf’s Young Adult Council will share their experience at Steppenwolf, and members of Steppenwolf’s Education and Engagement team will support the youth with some reflections on how teens impact their work.
